Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.
Firstly, I want to express my sincere thanks to all the Board members for their hard work, diligence and professionalism throughout the selection process.
Now to the announcement. With assistance from my fellow Board members, we will briefly mention the career highlights of the Award recipient.
The recipient of the IPI Award for 2007 is someone whose professional career has been devoted to patent information.
Our Award winners career started in the early 1960s, the days of printed indexes for US chemical patents. But with characteristic foresight, a computerised version was soon created, becoming the first index-searchable patent database on IBM computers. This rapidly became an indispensable tool for chemical patent searchers.
Product development led to the incorporation of a database acquired
from the DuPont Company with the merged database offering a sophisticated new
chemical patent index.
This person is among the early pioneers of online patent information. With characteristic personal energy and enthusiasm, our Award recipient was instrumental in providing access to the chemical patent databases through the Lockheed online service (later Dialog) becoming the first patent database with online access. Later, distribution was expanded to include Questel-Orbit and STN International.
We have someone renowned for being strongly focused on the customer, intimately engaged with customers and genuinely interested in their needs, actively listening and acting upon input in ways that influenced product design and development, forming a customer-based quality control committee, creating a vibrant community of practice for the patent information community
In summary, this is someone whose leadership combines talents for business, product development and customer service an individual renowned for energy, enthusiasm, customer focus and commitment to producing quality patent information products.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you havent already guessed, the recipient of the IPI Award for 2007 is Mr Harry Allcock, founder of the IFI CLAIMS database and in-depth indexing system.
The formal presentation of the
Award to Mr. Allcock will be made at the Patent Information User Group meeting
in the US in early May. In the
meantime, details about Harry Allcocks career and achievements will be posted
on the IPI-Award website.
Thank you for your attention,
Ladies and Gentlemen. That concludes
our announcement.
