The Patent Documentation Group (PDG) seeks to promote the effective and efficient use of patent information. One way of accomplishing this goal is uniting users of patent information. Its membership includes many large firms in various industries, like chemistry, electronics, and engineering. Users share interests that can be best served if they agree on joint proposals to put forward to patent offices and information providers. The PDG is represented in many meetings of various organizations and enjoys observer status at several committees of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Members also benefit from the opportunity provided by PDG to discuss the subject of their daily activities with people in similar positions in other companies.
